Formula in plain English

The calculator converts area and average cut-or-fill depth to gross cubic yards. It multiplies equipment hours by the entered crew-and-equipment rate and soil, access, and labor factors; applies the material factor to entered import and haul costs; and applies the permit factor to the permit or engineering allowance before adding the components.

  • Gross earthwork volume is area times average depth divided by 324; it is not automatically the net haul-off or imported-fill quantity.

The modeled planning total is $2,550, with a $2,295 to $2,805 planning range for those inputs.
