Ask the qualified designer, installer, or code official responsible for the property to resolve conflicts among generic guidance, product documentation, existing conditions, and locally controlling requirements.

Stop When the Material or Work Area Is Uncertain
Do not disturb material that may present an asbestos or other health hazard in order to complete a budgeting checklist. The EPA's current vermiculite insulation guidance says to leave suspected vermiculite insulation undisturbed and routes testing, handling, or removal questions to appropriately trained and accredited professionals. Ask proposals to identify responsibility for protecting occupied areas, isolating dust or debris, safeguarding stored property and equipment, daily cleanup, disposal, final cleanup, and documentation of any specialist work. Verify Rules for the Installation Date
Do not subtract an incentive from the project budget until the current program owner confirms that the property, taxpayer or household, installation date, product, contractor, documentation, and expense all qualify. The IRS Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit page, updated April 28, 2026, says the credit described there applied to qualifying improvements through December 31, 2025. The Department of Energy's Home Energy Rebates Program Notice 26-1 reflects state and territory administration and current program guidance.
